About Our Indie Head Massage Therapy
Indie Head Massage is a form of relaxation massage that focuses on the head, neck, shoulders, face and scalp. It is a massage technique in the scope of Registered Massage Therapy, so patients can appreciate that it is eligible for coverage under extended healthcare benefits. Derived from Indian Head Massage or Champissage, Indie Head Massage differs as it has a more clinical focus and does not include Ayruvedia or scented oils.
Indie Head Massage treatments are done while the patient is laying face up on the table. The massage begins with dry myofascial treatment to the chest, neck, face and scalp, followed by application of heated oil and General Swedish Massage.
Myofascial work followed by massage aims to relieve restrictions into areas commonly associated with headaches, migraines, sinus congestion, and postural imbalances of the upper body. Massage into the face also works muscles that are used constantly throughout the day for facial expression, talking, and eating, which are often neglected. This can be a great introduction to jaw treatment for those who suffer from jaw discomfort or temporal mendibular joint dissorder.
Heated oil is applied to the scalp and hair from root to tip. In combination with massage, the oil helps to increase circulation hair follicles while sealing in moisture to the ahri shaft. Dampening your hair prior to your treatment will have an added benefit of moisture retention!
Pro tip: leave the oil in your hair all day, or overnight as a treatment for your scalp and hair!
