Menopause isn’t simply the end of your menstrual cycle.
It is a new hormonal stage of life—and one that can affect sleep, body composition, sexual health, mood, bones, cardiovascular health and overall wellbeing.
You may be struggling with hot flashes or night sweats. Or perhaps those symptoms aren’t your biggest concern at all. Maybe it’s the weight around your middle that won’t shift. Poor sleep. Brain fog. Vaginal dryness. Lower libido. Joint discomfort. Reduced muscle mass. Or the feeling that your body has changed faster than you expected.
At Bronte Wellness Boutique, we provide individualized menopause care designed to help you manage symptoms while also supporting your health for the decades ahead.
What Is Menopause?
Menopause is reached after 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period, when there is no other medical explanation. The average age of natural menopause is around 51, although every woman’s experience is different. The years following menopause are referred to as postmenopause.
Although hot flashes and night sweats are commonly associated with menopause, declining ovarian hormone production can affect much more than temperature regulation. This is why we believe menopause care should extend beyond simply managing hot flashes.
Common Changes During Menopause
Hot Flashes & Sleep
Weight & Body Composition
Not every woman experiences menopause in the same way. Some have significant symptoms; others have very few. Either way, menopause is an important time to reassess your health.
Menopause Is About More Than Symptoms
There is an important shift that happens when we move from perimenopause into menopause. The conversation becomes not only “how can I feel better?” but also “how can I stay strong and healthy as I age?”
Midlife is an important time to consider:
Our goal is to help women think beyond symptom management and build a health strategy for the years ahead.
A Personalized Menopause Assessment
There is no universal menopause treatment plan. Our naturopathic doctors look at your symptoms within the context of your overall health.
Your assessment may include discussion of:
When clinically appropriate, additional testing or investigation may be recommended. We want to understand not only where you are hormonally, but how you are functioning as a whole person.
Menopause Hormone Therapy
One of the most common questions we hear is “should I be taking hormones?” The answer isn’t the same for every woman.
Menopause Hormone Therapy (MHT) can be an effective treatment for menopausal symptoms for appropriately selected women. Depending on the individual, it may be considered for concerns such as hot flashes, night sweats and other menopause-related symptoms. There are different types, doses and routes of hormone therapy, and treatment decisions should be individualized.
Our naturopathic doctors can review your symptoms, medical history, goals and relevant risk factors and discuss the potential benefits, risks and alternatives with you. For women who are not candidates for MHT—or simply don’t want to use it—we can also discuss other approaches to symptom management and overall health.
Our goal isn’t to convince every woman to take hormones or avoid hormones. It’s to help you make an informed decision about your own health.
Building Your Menopause Health Plan
Your menopause plan may incorporate several aspects of care.
Naturopathic Medicine
Individualized assessment and treatment can address menopause symptoms while considering metabolic health, thyroid function, nutrition, sleep and other factors that influence how you feel.
Nutrition & Metabolic Health
Your nutritional needs can change through menopause. Our nutrition team can help support adequate protein, blood sugar regulation, healthy body composition, energy and sustainable eating habits.
Muscle & Movement
Maintaining muscle becomes increasingly important as we age. Your health plan can incorporate strategies to support strength, mobility and healthy body composition.
Pelvic Floor Health
Pelvic floor therapy can be valuable for women experiencing bladder leakage, urgency, pelvic discomfort or changes in core function.
Counselling
Menopause often coincides with major changes in family, relationships, careers and identity. Emotional wellbeing deserves to be part of the menopause conversation too.
Massage Therapy & Osteopathy
Hands-on therapies can support women dealing with muscle tension, joint discomfort, headaches, stress and mobility concerns.
Lymphatic Drainage
Lymphatic drainage may provide additional wellness support for women experiencing puffiness, bloating or fluid retention.
